3 Must-See Cities Of Eastern Europe

1. Prague, Czech Republic

  • Architecture : This glorious city showcases a variety of architectural styles just waiting to be explored. You can truly appreciate the meticulous work that has gone into the renovation of these buildings, some of which are even as old as the 12th century. The aesthetically pleasing buildings like the Gothic Churches and architecture from the Renaissance period are a feast for the eyes for both historians as well as tourists.

  • Beer : Czech's are rightly known for producing some of the world's best beer. So its safe to assume that drinking beer is one of the most popular pasttime activities, if not the most popular. The beer here is so damn good, and so cheap, that its a shame not to have one or ten! Their love for beer is so evident with the acceptable social drinking out in the open at the beautiful beer gardens.

  • Views : This stunning capital city totally lives up to the hype of some of the world's best postcard views. I loved the spectacular view from the famous Charles Bridge. You can find a cosy spot anywhere along the river to get an iconic view of the bridge itself.

2. Vienna, Austria

  • Music : In the world's music capital, music is quite literally in the air. The music scene here is mostly classical ranging from Mozart, Vivaldi and Don Giovani in the 18th century to Johann Strauss Junior and Cappochini in the 19th century. And if you're a music lover like me, you'll have plenty of opportunities to catch live performances by world class musicians.

  • Imperial flair : Walking the streets of Vienna is almost like walking through a kind of real life fairytale. It is a bit of a paradise for art lovers with more than 100 museums ( two words - Sigmund Freud!!! ) and also for lovers of fashion. No trip to this elegant city would be complete without a stroll along the sophisticated streets of flagship stores and premium luxury labels.

  • Coffee house culture : By purchasing a single cup of coffee in the grand old cafes, you can spend hours among the charming ambience making it an integral part of the city's social experience. I believe the idea that you can sit as long as you want, reading a book or passing the day with friends, is truly something special.

3. Budapest, Hungary

  • Nightlife : It is just one of those cities where boredom doesn't exist. The nightlife in this city is just one giant surprise making it a perfect destination for throwing a bachelor party. The famous ruin pub culture is something every young person and even those who are young at heart should experience. With the psychedelic interiors, themed rooms with open bars on either side and a huge courtyard on each floor, no wonder its such a huge phenomenon. Explore a few of them, especially the semi hidden ones, and find your favorite one and dance the night away.

  • Skyline : With so many stunning buildings forming a part of the skyline along the Danube river, the view from above the hill is breathtaking to say the least. A hike upto the Citadel has a beautiful panaromic view of the city. My personal favorite was the Fisherman's Bastion in Buda up the hill with its magnificent marble exterior and 360 degree view of the city. In my opinion, the view alone is worth the trip!

  • History : In this cultural hub, walk it's historical grounds starting from the Buda Castle. Soak in the magical view before exploring the 11th century church. Enter the Heroes' Square gateway during the day and marvel at the statues of the most beloved national heroes and have a picnic at its city park. Don't forget about Margaret Island nestled between Buda and Pest, where you can easily spend a day. Just like its neighbouring countries, Austria is also home to one of the world's largest synagogues.
